Across Canada on VIArail
|
|
We took the train from Vancouver to Jasper... the trip takes the best part of three days, and the scenery for much of the way is a continuous procession of lakes, rivers and waterways as you cross the Canadian Shield. The train is very comfortable too, and meals in the dining car are yummy!
Many of these photos were taken as the train paused briefly to allow goodstrains to pass, or for passenger stops. It's hard to take good pics from a moving train! But when we approached the Rockies I had a go at it, and took many photos from the domecar windows.

This was actually the very last stage of our bus tour, but I thought I'd do these photos next because it's the smallest folder. It was a very grey foggy day in LA and we couldn't see much. The infamous Hollywood sign was totally hidden by the fog - I could just make out a vague white 'shadow' when I peered as hard as I could in its direction!
We drove around Hollywood and the area where the big 'stars' live but busses aren't allowed in there and we weren't allowed to take photographs even from the outside. You have to go on a special (expensive) minibus tour to see the actual homes of the rich and famous... can't say I'd care enough to do it anyway!
We went to a sort of mini-Mexican area that was more interesting. I've forgotten the name but it's a beautiful little place, with the oldest church in the city, the old spanish mission, and a little street of streetstalls selling Mexican-type stuff.
I didn't go into Universal Studios, but the bus stopped there for some time to let the interested parties off, and I grabbed a photo of the spinning ball while I was waiting.

Antarctic Sunrise
|
|
|
No I haven't ever been there... and I don't ever intend to go! But a young woman who I know via the Open Diary community lives and works in Antarctica, and this year she wintered-over. She posts the most remarkable photographs into her diary, and I thought I'd share the spectacular recent pre-sunrise photos that she's taken. According to her, nacreous clouds are a totally unique Antarctic phenonemon, and you can only see them in the pre-dawn weeks... I think they're marvellous!

here are a few pics of 'My Territory' - my bedroom Some of these were taken two or three years ago when I borrowed a digital camera from a friend... the rest are much more recent and taken with my OWN digital camera (well, my parents'! ) More photos will be coming shortly - these are already outdated by my new possessions...

Some photos of me and my fiance...

These were taken on my trip to Florida... We were only there for sixteen days, but it felt like forever... I was VERY sad to have to get on the plane at the end of the trip.

Meeting with Aurry
|
|
When I was in Las Vegas we met with my friend Aurry and his family. I've known Aurry for a long time on the internet and it was lovely to meet him in person...
btw, I'm not blind! That stick thing in the tiger photos is a recorded message stick they handed you at the door of Seigfreid and Roy's Secret Garden. They needn't have bothered though - talk about CORNY dialogue! 'And dis ees de magnificent white tiger...' (wonder if they still think they're so magnificent now that one of them tried to have Roy for an aftershow snack?)
But oh the tigers are GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!! I'll see if I've got any digital pics of them.

This is a mixed bag. We were only in Las Vegas for two nights and a day... I would have liked to be there for longer because it's an exhilerating place even when you don't gamble! But that's all the bustour allowed... and besides, the smoke in all the casinos was killing me (I have asthma and I'm allergic to smoke)
These pictures are of the Caesers Palace shopping mall, walking along the strip during the day, a visit to Roy and Seigfried's Secret Garden (gorgeous big cats and dolphins), and Las Vegas by night. The Pirate Show at Treasure Island is marvellous but they're about to stop having it, so if you haven't ever seen it by now I think you're too late And the volcano goes off every 20 minutes after the sun goes down, so I saw it from LOTS of angles, hence all the shots. I could have stood there and watched it all night because it was MAGNIFICENT!
